Giovanni Manganelli
Manganelli, the water sculptor
The works of Manganelli displayed in the communal parts of the Golden Palace; an exclusive pleasure for who experiences the hotel.
Manganelli was born near Bologna in 1942. After a degree in cinema directing and a professional debut dedicated to the career of director, in the 1980s he withdraws to Pietrasanta, in Versilia, where he lives and works as an artist, devoting himself to his life-long passion, sculpture. With a knowing combination of intuition and rationality he captures the idea of a style, unique and recognisable, ensuring his talent, his identity will last: Manganelli, the sculptor of water. Manganelli conveys in marble the dimension of water, an element that by its nature is not identifiable with a closed, static geometric shape, giving rise to a “tassello d’acqua”: the fifth essence. His favourite subjects are animals (hippos, elephants, frogs, dolphins, crocodiles), human figures (including Lovers in Water, 1993; Dolphin Head and Sunset with Figures in Water, 1996; Butterfly Swimmer, 2001) and still lifes (Bottle in Water, Trunk in Water, 2003), to cite only a few.
